Better Roads, Sidewalks, & Transit

Better roads means that we will finally invest in our neighborhoods.

Right now our roads are full of potholes, the sidewalks either don’t exist or are in disrepair, and the bus system lacks coverage and reliability.

Roads

For our roads, we have to actually pave them. We must develop a plan to pave every road based off of technology and data. Yes, this plan will actually include the neighborhood streets and not just the commercial centers like Cary St. The schedule will then go online so every Richmonder can pull up the map and see exactly when their street will be paved. No more playing favorites with some neighborhoods, while others get ignored for decades.

It is not a surprise that roads need to be repaved at regular intervals, so after they are paved they just go back on the schedule for several years in the future. This will allow the city to budget appropriately so we never are in this problem again.

This is city planning 101. It is not rocket science. Every other city in the world has figured it out. It is time Richmond gets with the program.

Sidewalks

With sidewalks it is the same thing. We develop a plan to see where sidewalks don’t exist and also figure out where they need to be repaired. We then invest in a schedule to provide this basic amenity to our people. You will again be able to go online to see where and when the work will be done.

No Richmonder should have to walk in the dirt to get to where they are going, and the entire city should be accessible to wheelchair users.

Public Transit

I believe the number one priority of the bus system should be to serve the people who rely on it every day as their only mode of transportation.

This means increasing its coverage and reliability. To do this we need to actually invest in it.

The current administration has decided to cut funding for the bus system. I will do the opposite.

In Richmond we deserve to finally have our neighborhoods made a top priority.
